Weather Resistant Pigments
Why Weather Resistant Grade Pearlescent Pigments differ from
other grades
The nature of Pearlescent Pigments, like so many other materials, is that it's adversely affected by harsh weather, UV
rays, heatt and cold, rain and snow. Special materials or treatments are required in the usage of these weather resistant pearlescent pigments in order to make them suitable for these kinds of conditions. The result of the above mentioned proceses is a pearlescent pigment that is weather resistant and can be used in any exterior condition.
Pearlescent pigments for exterior applications require special manufacturing and surface
treatment for improved weather resistance.
At Pritty’s Pearlescent Pigments, a Chinese manufacturer of pearlescent pigments, among them Nacreium, which is a weather resistant grade of pearlescent pigment manufactured and
rigorously tested to be suitable for exterior applications. Nacreium, differs from other
grades of pearlescent pigments as they are specially
manufactured and surface stabilized in a chromium free
process to reduce the photo-catalytic characteristics of
pearlescent pigments for use in exterior applications.
Of the many weatherability tests available there are the four industry standard tests used to
determine if a product is suitable for exterior applications:
- High temperature water immersion test
- Low Temperature water immersion test
- Humidity and condensation test
- Ultra violet and condensation test
One important factor to take into account is that it does not suffice for the product's weather resistance to be to tested. It is imperative for the end user to conduct their own set of tests to confirm the weatherability of their products as well.
For further information, advice and testing equipment for all weather resistant testing of your exterior
products we recommend Q-LAB at www.q-lab.com
the total system requires weatherability testing.
